Edinburgh Fringe 2018

Promoting the world's best comedy at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2018

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the world’s largest arts festival. Established in 1947 as an alternative to the Edinburgh International Festival, it takes place in Scotland's capital during four weeks every August alongside several other arts and cultural festivals, collectively known as the Edinburgh Festival, of which the Fringe is by far the largest.
Get Comedy promotes & produces some of the best in comedy at Fringe and its members have done so since their first arrival back in 1997.

Dick 'n' Dom: Dick v Dom
UNDERBELLY BRISTO SQUARE || 1.00pm || 1st - 12th August
ARE YOU READY?!!! The multi BAFTA-winning LEGENDS Dick & Dom are coming to Edinburgh for the first time in 2018. They are bringing their fast selling, insane UK tour to the Fringe for a comedy experience that the whole family will never forget. The audience is split in half and 'you lot' in the crowd will battle it out with interactive games, songs, mess, insanity and (of course) Bogies! “After 20 years as a duo, it's clear they have mastered the art of entertainment.” (Staff Live) As seen on Sky, CBBC, BBC1 & BBC2.

Cult Comics
LAUGHING HORSE @ COUNTING HOUSE || 2.15pm || 2nd - 26th August
Comedians Sam Golin and Bisha K Ali return with their geek culture-themed spectacular of comedy and nerd-friendly games. If you're a gamer, comic book fan, sci-fi buff or horror movie addict, Cult Comics is for you. Bisha K Ali (as heard on BBC Radio 4’s Grownupland, The Guilty Feminist and BBC Asian Network) and Sam Golin (as seen on Ginx TV's Console Yourself, and Challenge TV's Videogame Nation) are two award-losing nerds and superfans. Cult Comics was called 'specialist and indulgently niche' by EdFestMag.com, and they couldn't be more right. Resistance is futile.

Jim Tavaré: From Deadpan to Bedpan
LAUGHING HORSE @ COUNTING HOUSE || 4.15pm || 2nd - 26th August
In 2017 comedian Jim Tavaré (BAFTA Award-winner, Harry Potter actor and double bassist) was involved in a near fatal head-on automobile collision in Los Angeles. Returning to the Fringe for the first time in 20 years, he tells the story of how a quick trip to the shops changed his life forever. One comedian, one dog and a DIY disaster. 'One of the funniest and most original performers around.' (Independent). 'Fresh, funny and imaginative.' (Guardian). 'As dry as a critic’s mouth in the morning' (List).

Ross Brierley: Accumulator
UNDERBELLY BRISTO SQUARE || 4.30pm || 1st - 27th August (not 14th)
What would you do if you had a bet on the horses and won a year's wages in a day? Quit your job and become a professional gambler? Sure, why not. Award-winning comedian Ross Brierley takes you on a surreal journey into the highs and lows of trying to predict the future to pay the bills. An hour of big, daft ideas and little plastic pens from the host of The Not So Late Show with Ross and Josh.

''Potential brilliance' - The Skinny

Laura Davis: Ghost Machine
UNDERBELLY COWGATE || 5.40pm || 2nd - 26th August (not 13th)
A show about life. Performed by a ghost. For the love of god. Laura Davis pushes into new ground in her internationally acclaimed, multi award-winning show Ghost Machine. Lauded as one of the strongest and most unique comedic voices around, Laura Davis is unconventional, cathartic and exhilaratingly hilarious. Ghost Machine sees audience members returning multiple times to celebrate this darkly honest, constantly surprising, existential extravaganza. ''An original and provocative hour in the company of a unique mind' The List

Ari Shaffir: Jew
HEROES @ THE HIVE || 6.00pm || 2nd - 26th August (not 13th)
Ari Shaffir turned his last Fringe show into a Netflix special called Double Negative. This year, he returns to tackle his Orthodox Jewish upbringing. Ari questions all the things rabbis never wanted him to. Like, who were the real bad guys in Sodom and Gomorrah? Why do Hassidim dress like Johnny Cash fans? Who did Adam fuck before Eve? It’s a UK festival-style show with the laughs of an American hour. 'Ridiculously funny' (Jimmy Carr). 'One of my favourites' (Bill Burr). 'The real deal' (Dave Attell). 'One of the 100 funniest human beings alive' (Joe Rogan).

Terry Alderton: The Musical
ASSEMBLY GEORGE SQUARE || 6.30pm || 1st - 27th August (not 13th)
It's the musical they said would never happen! After last year's award-winning show, he's back with stories from his life set to music. Oh yes. Featuring: his time in the CIA, the fight over a parking space with Prince Charles and the loss of his imaginary friend Bogey. A thrilling and worrying insight into the mind of a comic genius. Music by Grammy nominee Owen Parker. Words by Terry Alderton. 'The comedy thrill of a lifetime' ***** (Scotsman). 'He's proved himself as a comedian of dizzying inventiveness' ***** (Times).

Glenn Wool: Wool's Gold II (The Iron Pirate)
MONKEY BARREL || 7.30pm || 2nd - 25th August (not 13th)
Comfortably in his forties, award-winning comedian and new dad Wool delves into his back catalogue of material spanning 25 years to perform some of his more subversive routines. Does he still agree with those points of view or has he finally grown up? Plus a little navel gazing tossed in for the arty-farty types because it's the Fringe.
'Lethally funny' (Metro).
'Absolutely hilarious' (Independent).
'Effortlessly funny…you have to go and see Glenn Wool.' (Guardian).
'Why aren't you in a queue somewhere buying a ticket?' (Scotsman).

Alice Fraser: Ethos
UNDERBELLY BRISTO SQUARE || 7.55pm || 1st - 27th August (not 13th)
Humans have always been fascinated by non-human minds. From the Golem, to Frankenstein's monster, to artificial intelligence – computers who could think, and threaten civilisation. Imagine an AI: a brilliant but naive mind, newly created. Now imagine that mind learning about our world by watching a comedy show. Alice Fraser (The Bugle and BBC Radio 4) explains our society of contradictions to a new robot mind. A silly, funny, smart show that explores what it is to be human.
''A life-changer' EdinburghGuide.com
''Inescapably funny.' Herald Sun
''A sexy cerebral twist to comedy' OUTinPerth

John Hastings: Float Like a Butterfly, John Hastings Like a Bee
PLEASANCE COURTYARD || 8.30pm || 1st - 27th August
Last year, John Hastings was hit by a car and broke his arm. He then became homeless (his choice) with a long distance girlfriend (her choice) and now has a lot of thoughts on pigeons and bicycles (your choice). Now he's written this comedy show. A tale of displacement, death and denial (don't worry, there are jokes too).  As seen on Comedy Central.

***** (BroadwayBaby.com)
**** (Fest)
**** (Herald)
**** (Melbourne Herald Sun)

The Raymond & Mr Timpkins Revue: Ham
PLEASANCE DOME || 8.30pm || 1st - 27th August (not 13th)
The legendary terpsichorean twosome make their Edinburgh Fringe debut. If it is true that every story needs plot and narrative, it is fortunate indeed that this has both, which means if you're looking for a tale, one that includes the story telling devices of plottery and narrativery, then this one could be just for you. There'll be props and, oh yes, quite a lot of music and then of course there are the sandals, oh those sandals.
'Absolutely hilarious' (Viz)
'Mad, anarchic triumph of stupidity over style' (Guardian)
'Spectacularly funny' (Time Out)

Alex Williamson: So Wrong It's Wrong
UNDERBELLY BRISTO SQUARE || 10.15pm || 1st - 27th August (not 13th)
Did someone say drugs, pedos & terrorists? Probably not, alas these are just some of the topical/fun themes touched upon in this one hour honesty session. If you’re not an 85 year old church-goer, there’ll be something in this show for you. But by all means come along if you are an 85 year old church goer, just flick your hearing aid off and laugh along in a haze of dementia.
