Promoting the world's best comedy at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the world’s largest arts festival. Established in 1947 as an alternative to the Edinburgh International Festival, it takes place in Scotland's capital during four weeks every August alongside several other arts and cultural festivals, collectively known as the Edinburgh Festival, of which the Fringe is by far the largest.
Get Comedy promotes & produces some of the best in comedy at Fringe and its members have done so since their first arrival back in 1997.

WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY? Live at the Fringe

Believe it or not, one of the greatest TV shows of our time recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, and what better way to commemorate than with a live Fringe extravaganza at Underbelly’s McEwan Hall - for the full month!

Following a total sell-out run in Edinburgh two years ago, including extra shows, as well as sell-out runs at the London Palladium and The Royal Albert Hall, Clive Anderson once again takes the reins as many of the original cast members reunite in this now legendary live version of the iconic improvisational TV smash hit.

Devised by Dan Patterson and Mark Leveson, Whose Line took over the UK’s prime-time TV slot on Friday nights and went on to repeat its success stateside with America versions on ABC and the CW network.

No two shows will ever be the same! No points awarded will ever make any sense!

ANDREW MAXWELL: All Talk

Renowned for his cutting edge comedy and intrepid social commentary the enigmatic Andrew Maxwell is back with a brand new hour ‘All Talk’ to the Underbelly’s signature venue The Udderbelly (Purple Cow) in the George Square Gardens.

As always, Andrew will be taking on the tough political subjects some comedians just skirt around and giving you his hysterical yet perfectly thought-out point of view every time. Mix this with a few personal stories over the last year and the people who made him laugh.

The last 12 months has been great for Andrew - on TV he’s recorded an episode of QI and has appeared on the new political panel show ‘Breaking The News’ for the BBC and Roast Battle for Comedy Central and WON Celebrity Mastermind on the specialist topic of 'The Lebanon' which he knew nothing of 6 month previously.

“A master-class in mirth. Sublime timing, relaxed delivery style, killer punch-lines: the holy trinity of stand-up are all present and correct.  Go see a craftsman at work.” ★★★★★ THE HERALD

PHIL CORNWELL: Alackadaddy

The legendary TV comedian and actor Phil Cornwell makes a welcome return to this year’s Edinburgh Festival after an absence of 9 years. His highly anticipated and hilarious brand new character based show ‘Alakadaddy’ will run at the Underbelly Bristo Square for the month of August. The show’s story is based around his alter ego Robert Lemon Alackadaddy who will feature alongside other original characters with a few incredible impressions thrown in for good measure!

Who is Robert Lemon Alackadaddy? Well he’s certainly a geezer that's done many a thing. As the great man once said… ‘‘I done Fings wot you wood not believe. Fings that're real, and fings wot done come from my bootiful but terrifying mind”. What a wordsmith I hear you cry. Well come all you people. Listen to Bob. He has a message for you. He won't admit it though. He needs you to work that out yourself.

MICKY P KERR: Kerr in the Community

After winning the hearts of the British public and the judges last year as a finalist on Britain’s Got Talent, watched by over 11 million people, Leeds born comedian & musician Micky P Kerr brings his new second hour to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the month of August.  The show, entitled ‘Kerr In The Community’, premieres at the Underbelly Bristo Square Daisy Room. From the performer who was once described as “the bastard spawn of John Cooper Clarke”, you can expect comedic songs, spoken word and plenty of daft stories, all delivered in Micky’s usual down to earth, yet slightly mischievous style.

In this hilarious rags to more rags tale of becoming a ‘proper’ musician, one of the UK’s finest musical comedy talents dissects the winning pop song formula and offers his own unique reconstructions. Last year, Kerr, made the finals of Britain’s Got Talent, wowed the judges and kept the crowds wanting more. This year he takes on the pomposity of the popular music industry in a show that will make you laugh, sing, and wonder why on earth Micky isn’t a global phenomenon by now!

“Excellent” BEYOND THE JOKE

FELIX & THE SCOOTERMEN: Self-Help Yourself Famous

Twelve-years on from their No.1 debut album Berkshire’s own Alan Sharland and Irwin Sparkes of UK chart sensations The Hoosiers are back but this time with their very first comedy outing under the name Felix & The Scootermen! The show, entitled ‘Self-Help Yourself Famous’ will premiere at the Underbelly Bristo Square for the month of August.

Loosely-based on their own ups and downs in the ever-changing music-business, and just as absurd, the boys will share their first-hand knowledge and reflect upon the cost of reaching for the stars! There are songs, laughterisms and inappropriate uses of space-hoppers. Are you prepared to find out if you can make it in the Fame Game?

Felix & The Scootermen, aka Felix Scoot & Lee Delamere, grant the audience Access All Areas with their own self-help masterclass on how to become as famous as they are! They’ll teach you how to write the hits and play the fame game ... and win! ... BIG!!

IZZY MANT: Polite Club

The first rule of Polite Club is: you do not talk about Polite Club. Unless someone asks you nicely!

Why does a BAFTA-winning TV comedy producer decide to come out from behind the camera to get on stage and tell jokes? Because she’s tired of being polite.
‘Polite Club’ is the debut stand up show from Izzy Mant, producer of scripted comedy for TV, that includes series of Peep Show, The Windsors, Harry & Paul, Toast of London, Cuckoo and GameFace.

If you’ve ever smiled through a car-crash date, apologised for your boss’s mistakes, or gone to a sex party just out of good manners, then join Izzy’s club. She’s run away from conflict and crashed headlong into mistaken identity, public disgrace, and the Zimbabwean ambassador.

"Izzy is one of life's great delights" HARRY ENFIELD

"Izzy is very funny" PAUL WHITEHOUSE

DILRUK JAYASHINA: Cheat Day(s)

Lance Armstrong. The Rock. Steve Smith. Bill Clinton. Dilruk Jayasinha.

They all know a thing or two about CHEAT DAY(S). Sure, some more than others and of varying kinds.

Dilruk Jayasinha considers himself to be a bit of a foodie. The kind of foodie who could rank the top five fried chicken joints in every city that he’s visited, or who would consider it criminal to go to Hong Kong and not try at least eight different servings of sweet n sour pork. Even if he only had three days.

So how the hell has this deep-fried double-glazed loving comedian managed to drop as many kgs as a contestant on a season of Survivor over the last year? Has he found a magic diet pill? Pilates? Pete Evans?
Not quite. Dilruk has discovered the cheat day, and he’s back with a brand new show in 2019 to let you in on his secrets and most epic cheat day stories.

“A side-splitting and thought-provoking night of comedy.” ★★★★ ½ The West Australian

JOHN HASTINGS:10 John Hastings I Hate About You

The wonderfully gifted storyteller and critically lauded John Hastings moved to Los Angeles last year and it’s going so well he is back in Edinburgh to blab about America, Brexit and borrowing a lot of money from his parents. Fresh from the Melbourne Comedy Festival where John was described by the Melbourne Age as ‘...a near-perfect hour of stand-up’ ★★★★1⁄2. John brings another packed hour of anecdotes and sharp observations about leaving the UK, being in an open relationship, performing eulogies at funerals of relatives he barely knew and a lot of comments about political philosophy and farting in equal measure. It’s only a matter of time before stardom beckons so catch him now in a sweaty basement before he is moved to a larger sweatier basement.
John Hastings is the last comedian to be given an hour-long special on CTV in Canada. He has also appeared on Comedy Central’s Stand Up Central and BBC Three’s Sean Walsh’s Late Night Comedy Spectacular. John has also appeared on the Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala and regularly on BBC Radio 4’s comedy content.

‘This fast growing comic is a pleasure to watch’
★★★★ The Times

CHRIS BETTS: Dumb But Fair

Chris Betts brings his third show Dumb But Fair to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. An hour of comedy
favouring questions over opinions, curiosity over certainty.
This is the most exciting time any of us are likely to live through, and Chris Betts can’t figure out why he’s so bored. It seems like all anyone wants to do is tell him what they think, but he’s more interested in what we don’t understand. In Dumb But Fair, Betts takes philosophical forays into human interaction, race, conspiracy theories and death. He doesn’t have any answers, but that’s how he likes it.

Chris Betts tours up and down the UK, as well as across continental Europe and North America. He’s performed at SXSW in Texas, Machynlleth Comedy Festival, Bestival, Kendal Calling, Utrecht Comedy Festival, Glasgow Comedy Festival, and many more. Known for his quick mind, unflinching material, and assured stage presence, Betts is “considered among the upper echelon of performers.” (The Examiner)

“Chris Betts is witty, charming and very funny.” ★★★★  Voice Magazine

CHRIS BETTS Vs THE AUDIENCE

Back for its third year in a row, Chris Betts Vs The Audience is an hour of completely off the cuff comedy debate between comedian Chris Betts “amazingly funny” (The List) and his audience. The topics are picked by the audience so there’s no way Betts can prepare, and no matter what they choose, he must take the opposite stance. Since starting the show, Chris has had to defend Brexit, cancer, apartheid, legalizing meth, Canada becoming the 51st state and so much more and always with warmth, wit and aplomb.

Each show has a guest comedian judge to decide on who’s won the debates and generally screw with Chris and the Audience. Past guests include Jamali Maddix, Evelyn Mok, Jordan Brookes, Desiree Burch, Ahir Shah, Sunil Patel, Pierre Novellie, Garrett Millerick and a couple dozen more.

GLENN WOOL: Pregnant Pause (Work in Progress)

It’s a show about the duality of moments and a life that came to a chilling halt in the middle of the birth of his first born child.
